The first two books of the
trilogy are now published and Allison & Busby tell me that the
paperback of 'Octavia's War' is
likely to come out in May 2010.
Given what a lot of activity there is in the teachers' unions at the moment, with a new campaign against SATS, among other things, I have renamed the third book of the trilogy 'One Damned Exam After Another' as it is about a present-day teacher who, having rediscovered the natural process by which children learn from reading his famous aunt Octavia's journals, stands up for his own pupils and begins a campaign to right a few academic wrongs. Very apposite at this moment - if I can find a publisher bold enough to take it! Meantime
my
21st
novel
is due out on April
30th
2010. Published by Robert Hale and called 'Girl on the Orlop Deck' it is based
on the true story of a young woman who, when her husband got drunk and
was persuaded to join the Navy, disguised herself as a boy and followed
him into the fleet determined to find him. She ends up in the 'Victory'
at the Battle of Trafalgar, working as one of the loblolly boys who
were assistants to the surgeon. And does she find her husband, you
ask? Read on.
